The Dropout Economy
Salam Reiham of The Time Magazine has popularized the Dropout Economy phrase in the recent days. The writer wonders of the repercussions of a dropping out of school to the economy. “Does this mean the end of the individual? Are there things that can be done to help the person and making him or her productive?” Dropout economy is all about coming of age, being able to understand what is expected of you and what can be done and at what time. It is a phrase that is trying to tell us more about a community’s tale of radical thinking and activism. All this has been spackled due to rejecting traditional beliefs, norms and thoughts that have for a very long time revolved around the working man. According to Salam, this is a period when corporate returns are being privatized whereas on the other hand, there is the socialization of loses in form of bailouts and unemployment. However, Salam (2) notes that, those people that bear the worst hardships will not find it hard in trying to reject all the ancient socio-economic structures by adopting a substitute dropout economy.
