The main characters in the film are Rudy, Dolores, jimmy and Javier. Rudy is originally from Mexico but he is born in East Los Angeles. When he is rounded up in the factory where he had gone to collect his cousin, Rudy is deported back to Mexico. It is here that he befriends jimmy who is an ex convict and who promises Rudy that he would get him across the US borders if he offered him money. Since Rudy did not have any money, he decides to work for him to raise the money needed. While in Mexico, Rudy falls in love with Dolores a bar maid with whom at the end of the story is married by Rudy so as to avoid being arrested and deported back to Mexico for illegally being in the US. Javier on the other hand is RudyÂ’s cousin.

The movie starts with a scene of Rudy and her mother in their home in East Los Angeles. Here we are shown Rudy being told to go and pick up his cousin Javier from down town Los Angeles where he was working in a factory before leaving with RudyÂ’s sister to Fresno. Immediately Rudy arrives in the factory, immigrant officials raid the factory. It is this factory that Rudy is falsely accused of being in the US illegally. No matter how much Rudy tries to convince the officials that he is a US citizen, the pleas fall on deaf ears. To make matters worse, Rudy did not have any identification document with him at the time. The mother who could have at least verified that what Rudy was saying was true is not in town too. This leads to Rudy being deported to Mexico.
