One of the most important and perceptible changes that Telemachus goes through is that through the journey, he undergoes self discovery. This self discovery triggered and facilitated by the journey after his father, has Telemachus advance towards maturity so that he can properly and soberly reflect on his birth and lineage.

Secondly, the above remain true, since his quest is basically and strictly an initiation into the heroic world of Telemachus’ father.  The change which remains profound at the poem’s primordial stage to its postamble is underpinned by the fact that the journey endows Telemachus with knowledge and virtue; which are both essential in making Telemachus a just, generous and admirable future monarch.
