Course: The native American Indian Experience
Factors which led to the expulsion of American Indians from their native territory
There are several factors which led to the expulsion of the American Indians from their native territory, [western] Georgia to the west of Mississippi. Nevertheless, it remains a fact that the factor behind the forceful expulsion of the Cherokee Indians was mainly underpinned by financial reasons. As a matter of fact, it was the discovery of the likeability of the land being possessed and occupied by the Cherokee Indians, the North of Georgia Mountains being rich in gold.
This above development came against the backdrop of the white American industrialists and capital owners such as DeSoto having searched the Cherokee Nation relentlessly for the precious stone. Georgia was called the Cherokee Nation, given the protracted stay the Cherokee Indians had realized in the area, for which the Cherokee Indians called the western part of Georgia their home. This set the precedence for the thought [of exiting the Cherokee] among the white industrialists, capital owners and leading Caucasians who were in the Congress.
