The Essence of Decolonization

The themes of ‘colonization’ and ‘decolonization’ are central in Frantz Fanon’s book The Wretched of the Earth.  They run parallel to each other and fanon illustrates the two as opposites that cannot co-exist. However, fanon centers on decolonization, a major theme in the book, and delineates what it means, its nature and the role it would play in emancipation of the colonized people. Decolonization is portrayed by fanon as a process repealing the adverse effects of colonization. Fanon points out that decolonization is essential to gaining of full freedom after colonization, and that violence is an indispensable stage that initiates the process.
