In this paper I will compare and contrast the presentation of stories by three news agencies namely CNN.Com, Los Angeles Times, Fox News. In this regard I will use the recent story concerning Japan’s quake in my analysis of their respective coverage and impact to the readers.

The three articles have direct quotations of both experts on the matters to do with disasters of this nature which is a well-perfected strategy that authors uses to give credibility to their stories. The same can be said of the strategy of direct quotation from witnesses that cut across the three articles. A good example of this can be found in CNN’s article where an aviation student (Keisuke Masuda) at the civil aviation school in Sendai is quoted in his narration of his reaction upon hearing the first sign of the Tsunami (McLaughlin, 1, 2011). The same can be said of Los Angeles Times in their quotation of one of Tokyo resident by the name Megumi Ishii, and Fox News’ Wakio Fushima’s narration of his encounter with the raging water that characterized the Tsunami (Associated Press, 1, 2011).
