a) Recreation as a therapeutic Measure, What makes a recreation experience therapeutic?

Recreation can be defined as an activity that promotes refreshment, relaxation as well as enjoyment of mind and body. It is simply a leisure activity and the urge to have it is an element that can be explained in the psychology and human biology. On the other hand, defining recreation as therapeutic implies that it pertains to treatment or the process of developing a cure to a given disease. I do believe that recreation is therapeutic. The reason why I think that it is curative is the fact that recreation poses a lot of health benefits. Recreation activities have been used to assist people with obesity. Some of the vigorous activities during recreation help such victims to burn the excess fat in their bodies and this has been proved to reduce obesity. Recreation activities have also been recommended to patients suffering or people at the risk of obtaining osteoporosis. Exercising does a lot for an osteoporosis patient, this can be through dancing, walking, doing aerobics or any other activity that brings fun in people’s lives. In men, recreational activities have been proved to work wonders especially when it comes to prostate cancer as well as the colon cancer. On the other hand, it has also assisted in women to manage breast cancer (Austin & McCormick, 2002). However, it is worth noting that extreme exercises or recreational activities have their own side effects that do not fall under therapeutic basis. However, it has been proven that the recreational activities do more good than harm and this is the reason why I think it is indeed therapeutic. This is the reason why recreation has been developed to exploit this opportunity as an advantage to assist people with different health problems in their bodies (Mobily & Ostiguy, 2004).
