             To majority of us, when they hear of persuasion, what comes to their mind is propaganda, deception, issues of manipulation, bribery, coercion or even intentional bribery. This does not mean that they are far off the real meaning of the concept itself, this is because all this are elements related to persuasion, although as positive tool of persuasion. A persuasive strategy become negative if it involves first, false, distorted, irreverent or fabricated evidence to support claims or arguments (Johnson, 2006). Secondly, it is involves unsupported, illogical, or misleading reasoning. Thirdly, it comes from an “expert’ or an informer who is not competent in the area he or she is commenting on. The use of irrelevant appeals that diverts attention from the main issues that are at hand is another ingredient of a negative persuasion (Johnson, 2006). There are those who ask their audience to relate the proposals or ideas that they are giving them to emotion-laden motives, goals, or value, to which it is absolutely unrelated, such a habit makes such an attempt at persuasion a negative tool of persuasion (Johnson, 2006). A persuasive attempt become a negative tool if the person attempting it deceives his or her audience by simply hiding his or her real intention by concealing his or her position or the group that he or she represent.  By hiding, distorting, or misrepresenting the scope, number, undesirable features, or intensity of implications or consequences, one engages in an unethical practice thereby making that attempt at persuading a negative tool of the same. Other practices that form a negative tool of persuasion include; advocating for something that you do not believe in yourself, pretending certainty in cases where tentativeness and degree of probability is wanting, and oversimplifying complex and gradation-laden situations into simplistic choices (Johnson, 2006).
