Persuasion Essay

Spanking as a method of punishment has been with time identified as bearing limited value in influencing behavior that is related to rule due to its inconsistency. Spanking a child may be an effective method of punishment for a short while. But in the long run, since children learn to avoid misbehavior only because it might cause them pain, when they eventually forget about the painful ordeal they end u repeating the same mistakes. Positive or none emphatic discipline has been identified as the most effective disciplinary method that does not utilize any punitive methods.

Positive discipline involves employing guidance based on love which is a very effective way of building strong relationships between parents and their children. As opposed to spanking positive discipline prompts the child to respond to guidance which is gentler (Burke, 2006). Instead of using pain to eliminate misbehavior the method utilizes interactions which are democratic and as well deepen communication between children and parents. While spanking only stops misbehavior for a short while it does not offer the child an opportunity to learn how to autonomically change their individual behavior. Spanking only leaves children feeling much horrible about themselves and angry at the parents. This is a feeling that undermines the relationship with children and a foundation of power struggles that contribute to the children acting worse than before.
