Role of the Nursing Profession in Society
The nursing profession can basically be described as the healthcare profession that mainly dwells on the care of individuals, the household care and the whole community as a whole. This care that is fostered to the community n general is aimed at ensuring that all the stakeholders attain their optimal health conditions, maintain and in some other situations even recover the health conditions (Masters, 2005). This is done right from the individual is born to earth till he or she proceeds on to death. In short therefore, nursing should be conducted on an individual in a life span period. The role of the nursing profession can therefore be evidently seen that it goes beyond the commonly known fact that the profession offers services when an individual is sick and in need of medical help. It is a much broad and vital profession in the society.
By the fact that the term nurse originated from the Latin word ‘Nutrix’ which was used to mean nourish, it is clear that the profession greatly helps in ensuring that the quality of lives that we live in the communities is high. In this regard, it is very clear that nurses are a very important tool in the profession that basically ensures that: healthcare is delivered to the community, the helping profession attains its helping goal and that the art and science of community maintenance is attained.
