            While there may exist numerous debates regarding to what mental illness is, however, they all concur on one clear factor. This is that mental illness does exist and it involves the disturbance of the mind, thoughts, experiences and they are emotions that are very serious which can lead to the malfunctioning or the impairment of people. The impairment makes it difficult for the individuals to sustain and maintain interpersonal relations or work well in their tasks. Sometimes this may lead to self destruction behaviors or even suicide. Some diseases that can be categorized to as serious mental illnesses include bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and major depressions (McNally 109). This are often considered chronic and may lead to serious disabilities. In this paper, I am going to examine why mental illness has generally been viewed differently from the way other diseases are being viewed such as bronchitis, flu or cancer. It is of essence to comprehend that we are looking at mental illness as a socially constructed illness and not a physiological disease. The society has created a lot of social stigmas that are attached to psychologically associated conditions.
