Leopold in his article “Conservation Esthetic” argue that the improvement of the quality of public use of recreation areas (wilderness included) is the only sure way of effectively managing (and conserving) recreation areas. Leopold raises his concerns about some people’s (ironically, people in position of influence to the policy formulation) disregard of the importance of what he calls “blank place on a map” or wilderness and recreation areas, according to him it is important for people to go back to nature which he is not sure how well because of the mechanization that has come to characterize the 21^st century and which is inevitable. In this article Leopold also explores his favorite theme, which concerns the inability of human beings to escape from their own influence on the environment.
