Harem according to Leila Ahmed view of the western mind refers to a system in which a man is allowed to have or access multiple women. The term is also used to refer to the living area that is specifically allocated for a polygamous man’s wives, concubines and all of his female relatives. . It is a place that provides the meeting point of these women hence removes other boundaries that includes social classes between these women. the westerners rely heavily on the first definition aforementioned to pass judgment condemning a harem terming it immoral without consideration of the other side of the coin that is it provision of a free place away from male dominance that these women are provided in other to share and interact with each other without pressure or influence from a masculine dominated society that the world is. the western believes and thoughts are somehow based on misinformed facts about the harem, to them a harem is a prove of male dominancy and control over women limiting the freedom of the women who lives in these harems, this to them is the truth, they believe that western or so called civilized society has empowered more the woman who is left free to do as she pleases.
