Topic: Finding Quotes from MachiavelliÂ’s Prince and Discourses

Order Description

Below, I have posted a link where you can download the book that is needed for this assignment. This book can specifically only be used for this assignment, and to get this book for free, downloading the book through this link is the only way. At the top of the webpage, there is going to be a button to download the PDF format of this book. Download it, and you will be ready for this assignment.

Your assignment is to find quotes pertaining to a couple questions which I will give as followed:

1) Method: What approach to thinking about politics does Machiavelli seek to discard? What sources of knowledge does he depend upon for insights?

Machiavelli is discarding Christian values, and he uses his own experience and history for insights. Find quotes that support these ideas.

2) Concepts: Explain Machiavelli’s account of human nature and the significance of the concepts virtu and fortuna in his work. What do these concepts contribute to his understanding of politics – both in principalities and in republics? Is there a place for ethics in Machiavelli’s work?

Find quotes about fortuna and virtu and then briefly describe the significance behind these concepts. Second question, talk about how there is a place for morality in MachiavelliÂ’s works by finding quotes that support an idea of a difference between political morality and societal morality. Meaning morality is different in politics. Find good quotes that formulate clear ideas.

3) Insights: What specific arguments and ideas in MachiavelliÂ’s work remain useful for understanding the problems of contemporary politics?

For this, come up with your own ideas and find quotes. After each quote, write a brief sentence about how the quote relates to contemporary politics.

In all these questions, there should be quotes from both The Prince and The Discourses, and there should not be a concentration of quotes from one section of the book. There NEEDS to be diversity. Make your ideas clear and find good quotes that lead to thoughtful analysis. Provide explanation if you believe it is needed.
