Water Pollution

Water pollution is one of the serious environmental problems that is being witnessed in various communities and societies today. Water pollution affects the human population, wildlife, and the larger ecosystem. Pollution of water has negative effects on the health and well-being of both human beings and animals. Consequently, pollutants in water affect aquatic life, and that leads to reduced biodiversity as well as disturbance in the ecosystem. Some of the causes of water pollution include agricultural activities, industrial discharge, and poor waste management, among others.

Various policies have been proposed by individuals, groups, and organizations to mitigate water pollution. One of the strategies that has been proposed to deal with water pollution is the establishment of a legislative framework. According to Yadav (2010), the laws help to ensure accountability and compliance with regulations related to curtailing water pollution. Essentially, the legislation and policies help regulate the use of water and water pollution management. The second strategy that has been proposed is the establishment of a water management approach that is integrated. This approach can help ensure a holistic and coordinated approach when it comes to pollution control. In some countries, chemical precipitation is being used to remove arsenic pollutants in water that occur due to mining activities. Water purification has also been adopted as a strategy for removing water impurities.

Even though the proposed strategies have helped to deal with water pollution, they do not go far enough to deal with this environmental challenge. For instance, human activities such as agricultural activities continue to be a key factor in water pollution. Moreover, industries continue to discharge pollutants and other dangerous chemicals into the water. Therefore, proper enforcement of laws is required to ensure the rules and regulations guiding water use and management of pollutants are followed.

The proposals above involve an expanding society. The proposals focus on mitigation strategies that can be used to manage resources such as oceans, lakes, and rivers to promote sustainability (Santos et al., 2022). An expanding society proposes a system of effective governance that helps in managing environmental resources through strategies such as water pollution mitigation.
