Dangers of Totalitarianism

Introduction

1984 is a perfect example of the world today. Despite the fact that it was published in 1949, it accurately portrayed a future where totalitarianism is practiced at its best by the government. In the book, the state referred to as Oceania is under the ruling Party headed by Big Brother. It is from the basis given by the book that this paper comprehensively analyzes the issue of totalitarian by totally opposing it. The major reasons for opposing this form of state are as discussed.

Political Dictatorship

Just like is still present in most of the countries in the world today, political parties still dictate over others and terribly disregard multi-parties and democracy (Camiller, 2000). In his book, Orwell presents the Party which is headed by Big Brother. In the state, The Party is considered as the only source of authority with all the other attempts to foster power being regarded as enemies. Winston is an example of the several citizens who dislike the Party but are not allowed to show their dislike and instead are forced to love The Party together with Big Brother. Winston can only reveal his thoughts of hated felt for the Party in his diary because of the state of dictatorship.
