Introduction

China and India are responsible for some of the inventions that today are responsible for some of the technological advances that the world enjoys today. Yet these innovations were made centuries ago before even Europe had these same capabilities. However they were unable to full exploit their innovations for economical development (Ebrey 45). Centuries later Europe employed their innovations to their advantage until they were able to surpass these two countries in terms economical development.  Apparently, most people in the west and even some in Asia tend to think that Europe influenced most of the technological advancement in the east including China and India, failing to understand that Asia was more organized before even Europe discovered a sea route to China and India. Much of the development that was witnessed in Europe during the industrial revolution, have been found to have their origin in these Asian regions,  in spite of the fact that China and India lagged behind in terms of economic and technological development during this period. There are several factors that led to this perception with the greatest being the fact that both China and India had stagnated economically, so that most of the growth and development that had taken place over the centuries were dwarfed by the fast growth of Europe, most of which had been influenced by China and India although even then the two continents were not so far apart in terms of economy and economic developments. In this paper we will examine some of the innovations that were made by China and India and their contribution to economic growth and development in Europe.
