Introduction

Burnout essentially refers to the feeling of emotional and physically exhaustion principally emanating from stress from working in demanding conditions. According to Smith and others (2010), burnout is a psychological syndrome of physical and emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and decreased personal accomplishments in reaction to constant interpersonal stressors on the job. From the Smith and othersÂ’ definition of this concept it is quiet evident that burnout can be indentified by three significant features namely; emotional and physical exhaustion, increased feeling of de-sensitized to the need of customers, and feelings of decreased success with customers (Smith, et al, 2010). Burnout is normally followed by signs that might include; chronic fatigue; susceptibility to fevers, headaches, colds; quickness to suspicion, among others.

Burnout can be exhibited through physical, behavioral, and emotional sign, emotional signs includes; feeling of failure, detachment, decreased satisfaction, increasing cynicism, and helplessness (Smith, et al, 2010). Physical signs may include; drained appearance, changes in weight, increased in the incidents of physical complaints, increased incidents of absenteeism due to sicknesses (Smith, et al, 2010). Behavioral signs on the other hand may include; frequent isolation, increased outburst of frustration, anger, towards others, procrastination, increased absences, and withdrawal from the responsibilities of work (Smith, et al, 2010).
