For Google to know the areas that they need to focus on and the markets that they can plunge into a consideration of the Porter’s 5 forces for Google as well as its SWOT analysis. In regard to the porter’s forces for Google; the first power is the supplier power. Google needs to know that they are yet to dominate the global market (Arthur et al, 2010). If Google does not upgrade their system continuously to be able to compete with others such as Apple and Microsoft who have come out lately, the company may be edged out of the market. In terms of potential new market entrants, Yahoo and Microsoft have embarked on radical improvements for their on the search engines they use have succeed to on pass their search tools via their products, a move that needs a counter act by Google. Based on the fact that the search engine is the main tool that generates the largest revenue for Google, much time and resources should be invested towards its improvement. Other areas that need improvement to control the competition are the governing rules regarding online marketing, the switching costs and issues to do with legislative interferences. In terms of the degree of rivalry is high and must be tackled through hiring of more experts, and investing in research as well as developments to develop more economical search engines among other improvements (Madura, 2006).
