            Basically, African art and architecture refer to sculpturing and carving or any building style which was seen to have originated from the sub-Saharan part of Africa. Normally, this art and architecture is dated from prehistoric times and the ancient civilizations, up to the post imperialist Africa. Both African art and architecture contain a very wide range of diverse forms of art and styles so that it is seen to incorporate a dual category. This duality is expressed in the art of Benin which spans from Nigeria’s 13^th to 16^th century on one hand, and that of Ife’s historic and courtly art and architecture, on other.
