Africa Music Listening

Brenda Fassie was born on the third day of November, 1964 in South Africa and died on the ninth of May 2004. Her voice was well known among the disenfranchised south African blacks especially during the apartheid times and she was known as the African queen of pop and the affection she won amongst her fans earned her the nickname Mabrr. She composed a number of songs that became great hits in South Africa and the world as a whole. In her song “Nakupenda” which is translated to mean “I love you”, Brenda introduces the song by varying her voices in order to adequately communicate her message to her loved one.

The song released on the 15th august 2008 is among thirteen other love songs that make up the album. The instruments that are very audible and have been employed in this song include the piano, the guitar and from a distance, I believe the shakers have also used been used. In the music, there are a number of voices that can be heard, this I think is in order to bring out the message of love vividly. A male voice can be heard, the same to another females voice which is not BrendaÂ’s. This means that a minimal of three people can be heard in the song. The tempo of the music is very constant; the artist has used the same speed for the song from the start to the end which is neither fast nor slow. Without even understanding what the song is saying, you can feel love in the air and how the lady in the music is confessing her love to the other party.
